Volunteer Benefits

The VWB Initiative offers paying volunteers the following advantages over conventional tourism programmes.

  1. The opportunity to make a real difference when visiting minority cultures. We ensure (expenditure breakdown provided) that the full sum of your charitable investment in this programme is spent between covering the cost of your presence on site, covering the cost of a co-worker from the village, and on purchasing the materials you will use in developing the trails or the capacity of the villagers to operate them.
  2. The opportunity to play a hands on role in assisting a community, and the individuals in it, escape from poverty and regain their dignity, through securing ownership of their own tourist attraction and recognition for their contribution to environmental stewardship and the development of sustainable ecotourism.
  3. The opportunity to play a ‘hands on’ role in a programme that provides as much benefit to the volunteer as it does to the recipient community. To exchange knowledge with a people who have a completely different but equally valuable skill set as your own, and to experience a culture not as a tourist, but as one who arrives as a visitor - and never really leaves.
  4. For those who have the qualifications and experience, or are pursuing related studies, opportunities exist to contribute to the project by developing educational content for the trails, and conducting baseline or ongoing studies (i.e. G.I.S. database development, environmental studies, socio economic impact studies, and more). Note* Enquires from individuals and institutions are welcomed.
